Marek HUDON

Marek Hudon

Marek Hudon holds a Ph.D. in Economics and Management Sciences and a Master in Philosophy. He is currently Professor at the Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management (ULB). He has initiated the European Microfinance Programme (EMP), a one-year Master's Degree in microfinance co-organised by four European universities, and is still scientific coordinator of this Master. He is also co-director of the Centre for European Research in Microfinance (CERMi) and the Centre d'Etudes Economiques et Sociales de l'Environnement (CEESE).

He has conducted research in India, Kenya, Mali, Morocco, Vietnam and the Democratic Republic of Congo. In 2006, Prof. Hudon was a visiting fellow at Harvard University where he worked on ethical issues in microfinance under the supervision of Professor Amartya Sen. Current research interests also include public policy issues in microfinance, social entrepreneurship and complementary currencies.

In 2009, he was awarded both the CEDIMES prize for Post-doctoral studies and the Merlot-Leclerq prize in public economics. In 2010, he was awarded, together with Marc Labie and Ariane Szafarz, the Wernaers Prize for Research and Broadcasting of Knowledge, by the FNRS.

He has published or forthcoming articles in journals such as World Development, Journal of Business Ethics, Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly, Journal of International Development, Annals of Public and Cooperative Economics, International Journal of Social Economics, Savings and Development, and Mondes en Développement

Marc LABIE

Marc Labie

Marc Labie is an associate professor in the Department of Management of the Warocqué School of Business and Economics at the University of Mons (UMONS).  He teaches organizational studies, specialising in microfinance institutions. He holds a Bachelor degree in Economics and Social Science, and a Ph.D. in Business Administration. Prof. Labie has also studied at the London School of Economics and Political Science and at the Universidad de Salamanca. He is an alumnus of the FIPED program at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, US. His field experience includes case studies in Colombia, Bolivia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Indonesia, Kenya, Madagascar, Morocco, Mexico and Peru. Prof. Labie’s current research is focused on corporate governance issues in microfinance.

Ariane SZAFARZ

Ariane Szafarz

Ariane Szafarz is a full professor of mathematics and finance at Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management (SBS-EM), Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB). She holds a PhD in Mathematics and an MD in Philosophy. Her research topics include microfinance (mission drift, governance issues), financial econometrics, international finance, epistemology of probability, and job market discrimination. She co-directs the doctoral programme in management sciences organised jointly by SBS-EM (ULB), the Faculté Warocqué (UMONS) and HEC Management School (ULg). She is also President of the Marie-Christine Adam Fund. She has been visiting Professor at Université de Lille II, Université Catholique de Louvain, and the Luxembourg School of Finance. She has published several books and scientific articles in Econometric Theory, European Economic Review, Journal of Fixed Income, Journal of Empirical Finance, etc.
